DS2 file format
Convert DS2 to MP3, or skip the step and get the letter
DS2 is the Olympus dictation recorder format. We open DS2 files directly. Use our free converter to get an MP3, or send the DS2 straight to transcription and get the finished letter on your letterhead.
First 5 minutes free. No account needed.
Why DS2 files won't open in most software
The problem is not the file. It is the software people try to use.
- Standard media players cannot play DS2 files. Windows Media Player and QuickTime both reject them.
- DS2 uses the Olympus proprietary codec. Without a licensed decoder, audio software cannot read the file.
- Most cloud transcription services reject DS2 at upload because they do not carry the Olympus codec.
- Some typing bureaus ask for a conversion to MP3 first, which adds a step and can reduce audio quality.
DS2Genie opens DS2 and DSS files directly.
Send the file as it came off the recorder. No conversion, no Olympus DSS Player, no extra software. We open it and return the finished letter on your letterhead.
DS2 to MP3, or DS2 to finished letter?
A DS2-to-MP3 converter gives you an audio file you still have to transcribe yourself. If you need the dictation typed up as a letter, the conversion step does not help.
DS2Genie takes the DS2 file and returns the finished letter, skipping the MP3 step entirely. The free converter is on the convert page if you need an audio file for another purpose.
What you receive from transcription:
- The finished letter on your firm's letterhead or Word template
- A full verbatim transcript
- A short summary with key names, dates and action points
