About the M4A format

M4A is an audio format in the MPEG-4 container. Files carry the extension .m4a and are produced by iPhones, many Android phones, and a range of recording applications.

The iPhone Voice Memos app saves recordings as M4A by default. If you dictate your letters on your phone, this is almost certainly the format you are working with.

M4A files are compressed using the AAC codec. The audio quality is good for speech and the file size is manageable. A 10-minute dictation is typically under 5 MB.

For other formats we accept, see the file formats guide. If your recorder saves in DS2 or DSS, see the DS2 file guide.

How it works

1

Record

Dictate into your iPhone, Android phone or a recording app. The file is usually saved as an M4A automatically.

2

Send

Upload on the send page, or email the file to ds2genie@sogoodmail.co with a brief note on which template to use.

3

Receive the letter

The AI drafts the document. A person can check it before it returns to you. Most jobs come back the same business day.

What you receive back

  • The finished letter on your own letterhead or Word template
  • A full verbatim transcript
  • A summary with key names, dates and action points
  • Action points listed separately

Other formats we open

We accept more than M4A. If your recorder saves in a different format, it is likely covered.
