About the Olympus DS-2600
The Olympus DS-2600 is a professional dictation recorder from an earlier generation of the Olympus DS series. It is discontinued but widely used on the secondary market. Users include lawyers, solicitors, medical secretaries and other professionals whose firms adopted Olympus recorders before the DS-9000 generation.
The DS-2600 saves dictation in DSS format, the original Olympus Digital Speech Standard. Files have the .dss extension. DSS uses proprietary compression, which is why standard media players and most transcription services cannot open the files.
